PaleoGIS 4.2 and PaleoRun 1.0 for ArcGIS 10.1

We are pleased to announce that PaleoGIS 4.2 and PaleoRun 1.0 are now available.

PaleoGIS 4.2 features a new vector-based approach to raster reconstruction that improves reliability and performance. PaleoRun, a new product from The Rothwell Group, is a command line executable that enables users to run one or more PaleoGIS or PaleoClimate jobs in series from the command line. It exposes the most commonly used functions of PaleoGIS and PaleoClimate and provides some additional utility functions as well.

You can download the installation files from the PaleoGIS website: http://www.paleogis.com/dotnetnuke/Downloads/tabid/58/Default.aspx. If you are already a registered user on the website, login (click the “login” link in the upper right-hand corner) and then go to the Downloads tab. From the “Paleo Full Release Installation Files” section, download the installers by clicking on the “PaleoGIS v4.2.1.0 for ArcGIS 10.1” link or the “PaleoRun v1.0 for ArcGIS 10.1” link.

If you are not currently registered on the website, please register by clicking on the “Register” link in the upper right hand corner. After you have registered, we will be notified, at which time we will grant your account access to the installers on the Downloads tab. Until we have authorized your account, you will not be able to see the PaleoGIS Installation Files section.

NOTE: You must have ArcGIS 10.1 installed in order to use this software. PaleoGIS 4.2 and PaleoRun 1.0 will run on Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 32- and 64-bit. It has not been tested on Windows 8.

Rothwell enhances raster reconstruction with the latest release of PaleoGIS, introduces batch processing with PaleoRun

Rothwell, the leading provider of plate tectonic reconstruction modeling for the petrochemical and mineral industries, introduced PaleoGIS 4.2 and PaleoRun 1.0 at it’s recent annual Users Conference in Houston.

PaleoGIS 4.2 was designed to address the growing demand for leveraging raster images within the exploration screening workflow. The release incorporates a new raster reconstruction algorithm that significantly improves raster reconstruction reliability, consistency and performance. In addition, this version includes the ability to un-reconstruct rasters and supports rasters with datums other than WGS84.

Frequently, Geoscientists and GIS professionals need to run a large number of reconstructions, animations or climate simulations. Or, kick-off an extended analysis. This often occurs when their plate model vendor releases new data. Updating a library of reconstructions can be very time consuming. Now, with PaleoRun, users can execute batch runs that include either PaleoGIS, PaleoClimate or both jobs. Jobs can be scheduled for regular intervals or overnight or over the weekend if they are long running.

Rothwell’s Paleo products provide a robust suite of first pass plate tectonic screening tools that enable exploration geologists and GIS professionals to dynamically visualize, characterize, and understand basin and play development.

Rothwell to introduce PaleoClimate at Third Annual Users Conference in Houston, November 14

Rothwell is pleased to introduce its newest product, PaleoClimate, at its 3rd Annual PaleoGIS Users Conference on Thursday, November 14, 2013. The event is being held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel Houston.

Now, the power of paleo-climate modeling at your fingertips.

PaleoClimate is a desktop application that employs a parametric approach to model the climate of ancient earth. The product uses paleogeographic data as inputs for calculating all paleoclimate outputs. The elevation and distribution of land and sea for a given time are used to predict surface level pressure, which is then used to compute all other outputs including: sea level temperature, surface temperature, wind direction and azimuth, ocean currents, coastal upwelling, and wetness.

As a parameter driven application, PaleoClimate is not intended to replace robust supercomputer-based climate modeling. Rather, our quick cycle approach will allow geoscientists to rapidly explore a wide variety of factors and fine tune assumptions. The results will further strengthen first pass screening accuracy and/or validate the need to invest in more sophisticated climate analysis.

In combination with Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and other key data geologists and GIS professionals will be able to dynamically analyze and visualize a wide range of paleoclimate scenarios that may have affected source rock formation

DEMs for PaleoClimate are immediately available from plate model vendors Neftex and the PALEOMAP Project. PaleoClimate can be launched from PaleoGIS or can operate as an independent application. PaleoClimate’s outputs are viewable in ArcMap or in a variety of other GIS applications.
